Dhoni does it again..and wins

Posted by ..| That Guy |.. on June 7, 2009

Another victory of the comfortable sorts, for India.Another victory for India’s “best captain ever”.

Often in the past, there have been players[read,"player"] who’ve been criticized on a regular basis for being too “selfish”,too “one-dimensional” and of course, the Indian media and population’s favourite phrase, too “SLOW”.In this context, crops up a question atleast 40% of the nation’s cricketers would love to ask- Where have Dhoni’s hitting abilities headed off to?

Walking in at no.3 when the conditions are heavily in favour of the batsmen, has become an absolute necessity in Dhoni’s head;or so it seems. We saw it in the IPL,we saw it in the warm-up games and again last night against Bangladesh.Much to the annoyance of anyone who’s watching,he replicated his typical no.3 innings..slowing things down.Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni

It is ironical that the media has nothing to say.Well,of course, they are spending time praising his “smart captaincy” and his “good bowling  changes” .Not to mention, his “ability to stay cool” under pressure. However good his captaincy and luck may portray him,it can’t be denied that had he batted for beyond the 16th over,India would have sure shot finished with not more than 160 on a Trent Bridge wicket where 180 is deemed a par score.

What adds to the fury is the fact that India’s most successful batsman over the past few months,Suresh Raina had his spot taken at the expense of an oversmart decision of trying to get in a left hand-right hand combo. What’s more, both Dhoni and Gambhir didn’t take a single risk during their partnership after a brilliant start provided by Rohit Sharma.Talk about momentum!

Dhoni’s strike-rate in International T20′s is a mere 105 runs per 100 balls. But that doesn’t matter to India does it? With his brand image and popularity,he could well get away with killing young careers..oh wait,he’s already gotten away with that.

Dhoni’s luck seems perpetual and whatever it may be,atleast India is pulling off victories. But i say this,at the risk of sounding like a sadist, that no matter what he has done in the past,or how much popularity commands, Dhoni needs to learn a lesson..one of actually being a team man.

[P.S:- If you have a problem with reading the truth about Dhoni, you have the option of leaving.]

The finale that wasn’t.

Posted by ..| That Guy |.. on May 25, 2009

So it was the finals of another IPL season; you’d expect the best out of every single player out there, but the cardinal law of humanity just doesn’t let that happen does it? Here’s a list of people who kept the legacy and maintained the exact same stupidity level you’d normally expect from an IPL gamgillye :

1. Gilly: On the back of a brilliant 80 odd,a lot was expected off him.You can call it pressure, but he bagged the honour of a 3rd-ball duck in the first over of the finals. He tops the list despite the win his team pulled off.

PK

2.Praveen Kumar: Can never be trusted too much, especially when it matters the most.Showed exactly why he doesn’t have a big fan following.4 overs for 43 and getting dismissed at a crucial stage.PK grabs second spot.

Ipl_Rahul_Dravid

3.Rahul Dravid:The savior. The perfect man to have under pressure. The shot he played today and the dropped catch though, wont live long in his memory.Today just underlined his mindset throughout this tournament, even if he had gotten some runs.No.3.

4.Venugopal Rao:Irresponsible shot from a very experiencedVenu Rao batsman.Cost the Chargers atleast 15 runs,besides registering a 2nd ball duck.He grabs fourth.

5.Mark Boucher:The finisher.Finished nothing more than the match for RCB.Got out to a loose shot off a loose ball.Things ended for RCB after his fall.

boucher

Andrew_Symonds

6.Andrew Symonds:He finishes off things in the 6th place because of his mere presence and the fact that he doesn’t have half the hair that he does in this picture.Probably his best ever performance in a stupidity chart.6th Place- no kidd(monkey)ing.shrug

I want my Cricket back! :@

Posted by ..| That Guy |.. on May 22, 2009

The IPL this year, seems to grow better with time.Every day promises big surprises and last night sprang up one hell of a buzz.19 year old Manish Pandey, playing only his 3rd game of the season came into himself and got a huge score- the first century by an Indian in this tournament.Go back a few weeks and reminisce, and you’ll come across Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma grabbing hat-tricks.Not to mention,Ross Taylor’s unbelievable knock against KKR where he slammed 81 off 33 balls.

Yes,it’s all very exciting in this edition of the tournament. But somewhere down the line, you feel the absence of the real passion for cricket within you.
ENTER: Mandira Bedi

Gimme my CRICKET woman!MANDIRA BEDI:

The name is synonymous with utter boredom, overwhelming fakeness, tremendous suckiness and pure downright DUMB.

Ur watching a good game of cricket, and right in the middle of the innings springs up a concept only Mr.Modi can understand- The Strategic Time-out a.k.a AdGalaxy. As if that’s not enough, the T.V media has a screw-up of their own to offer, with Mandira Bedi running all around the stadium dressed in a way that can only be vaguely compared to a mop.And it gets worse..players are interviewed right in the middle of the games, asked about the atmosphere[?],South Africa[?],nightlife[?!?] and a tad bit about the match[:-|]. You really have to sympathize with the players, who seem to be ridiculing these interviews while simultaneously looking at someone who can’t even be the “G” in GLAMOROUS! Yeah, cricket is one hard game!

Well, there’s no running away from this cataclystic series of events; a man’s gotta do,what a man’s gotta do; and MAN-dira Bedi doing just that.[:-P]

\/. PEACE.
